Visuellmodellering med PMG har ett bestämt mål. Målet är att försöka introducera ett geometriskt designat kortspel att användas som ett tvärvetenskapligt verktyg. Verktyget består av en uppsättning på fjorton kort med en instruktion till användning. Kortleken har fått namnet ProjectModellingGame, därefter kallad PMG. Med termen tvärvetenskaplig menas att denna kortlek gör anspråk på att kunna användas som ett slags gemensam nämnare i det variations- och kategoririka arbete som projektarbets-formen omfattar. Hur man får ett kortspel att fungera som ett verktyg, både inom effektivt projektarbete och i studier av projekt som arbetsform, kommer att klargöras. För att få ett bättre grepp om detta mål delar vi upp det i tre delmål.
Första delmålet framgår av kortlekens titel som består av tre ord. Självklart syftar projekt på att verktyget avser att användas i projektsammanhang. Mittdelen modelling (eng) klargör att verktyget ska vara till hjälp i att modellera projekt. Ordet game syftar på att varje spel kan betraktas som en målinriktad modifiering av verklighet, dvs. en verklighetsmodell. När verktyget PMG presenteras som ett konstruktivt spel menar vi underliggande motsvarigheter mellan projekt och spel & även mellan projektteorin och spelteorin. Delmål I är att rikta användarens uppmärksamhet på motsvarigheter mellan projektmodell och projektverklighet, vilket är facit till PMG.
Det andra delmålet är att ta fram, sammanfatta och presentera de vetenskapliga grunder som klargör hur PMG som simulerings-verktyg kan fungera i praktiken. Tillsammans bildar detta ett studieämne som vi kallar Visuell Projektmodellering. Fortsättningsvis betecknas detta ämne VPM. Det nya ämnet bygger på en empirisk verklighetsbaserad visualisering av varjehanda processer medelst geometriska abstrakta bilder. Man kan se dem som strukturer, symboler, ikoner eller diagram. Man kan säga att dessa geometriserade bilder existerar i gränslandet konst-matematik-cybernetik. Således utgörs VPM:s stoff av ett flertal nyckelteorier ur dessa ämnen. Syftet är att påvisa fördelar av visualiserande kontra verbaliserande. Den metodik (Perskajametoden) exponerar projektprocesser i en förenklad geometrisk version. Vi säger ’exponerar’ för att det sättet synliggör strukturer i allehanda arbetsprocesser. Det öppnar helt nya möjligheter för insikt och granskning, och skapar tillfällen till justeringar.
Det tredje delmålet blir att inviga våra läsare i PMG-verktygets användningssätt när det gäller både projektstudier och projektutförande. Vetenskapens syfte har alltid varit att uppnå en djup förståelse för att först generalisera och sedan kunna prognosera. Syftet här är att stödja vår användare i dennes spaningsarbete efter projektstrukturer. Det är för att kännedom om strukturer kan hjälpa att förutse projektutfall.
